Pyrogens
Pyrogens are the agents responsible for inducing hyperthermia. By acting on a hypothermic thermoregulatory center, they inhibit heat-sensing neurons and stimulate cold-sensing neurons. Certain bacterial and viral infections can trigger the production of pyrogens, which raises the body’s temperature and causes fever.
