Inflammation
Inflammation is caused by chemical mediation and cellular response in response to cell or tissue injury and stress. An inflammatory response that raises the temperature of the entire body causes fever.
Fever, like other forms of inflammation, boosts the immune defense. Consequently, an increase in body temperature inhibits the growth of pathogens. When the inflammatory response is strong, inflammation and fever can be detrimental.
