Suicidal conduct and ideas
Individuals with schizophrenia have the highest rate of suicidal behaviour and ideation. If you have a close relative or acquaintance who is suicidal or has previously attempted suicide, ensure that they are always accompanied by someone. Immediately dial 911 or your local emergency number. Or, if you believe it is safe to do so, transport the individual to the nearest hospital emergency room.
Time may affect the severity and nature of symptoms, with periods of remission and worsening. Some symptoms may always be present. Therefore, the onset of schizophrenia symptoms in men typically occurs in their early to mid-20s. Symptoms typically manifest in women in their late 20s. It is uncommon for minors to be diagnosed with schizophrenia, and it occurs even less frequently in those older than 45.
