For a proper diagnosis, it is necessary to administer a battery of tests that can help identify mental disorders with associated symptoms and distinguish substance addiction cases. To diagnose a patient with schizophrenia, the physician will also request imaging tests, such as MRI and CT scans.
In addition, the American Psychiatric Association is establishing a specialised criterion for the diagnosis of schizophrenia. The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, or DSM-5, is utilised by mental health professionals and physicians, per the American Psychiatric Association.
