Psychological Examination
A mental health professional evaluates the mental status of a patient suspected of having schizophrenia by observing his or her demeanour and appearance. Evaluation of the patient’s moods, delusions, emotions, substance abuse, thoughts, and suicidal or violent tendencies by a licenced psychiatrist is essential for a correct diagnosis of the condition. The psychiatric evaluation also includes a comprehensive discussion with a close family member in order to obtain more information about the patient’s personal history.
