Alpha Synuclein and Lewy Bodies

Lewy bodies, abnormal aggregates of proteins and inclusions, begin to develop inside the neurons of people with Parkinson’s. The main component of lewy bodies is a protein called alpha-Synuclein, which is an insoluble fibrillary collection of incorrectly folded and misfolded proteins. Lewy bodies are a sign of Parkinson’s progressive disease.
