Environmental factors
Some environmental factors may also increase the likelihood of developing Parkinson’s. A diet high in antioxidants and regular physical activity may have a protective effect on the majority of people.
These factors include:
- Toxin Exposure: Exposure of some toxins, such as pesticides and metals or solvents may contribute to Parkinson’s.
- Traumatic brain injury in the past: Head injuries from sports contact or accidents may increase Parkinson’s risk.
- Some drugs and medications: Certain drugs may cause Parkinsonism. Parkinsonism is a condition that causes tremors and other symptoms similar to Parkinson’s but does not actually cause Parkinson’s.
