Utilising a scope to remove renal stones

To remove a lesser stone from the kidney or ureter, the doctor may pass a thin, lighted ureteroscope equipped with a camera through the bladder and urethra to the ureter. After locating the location of the stone, special instruments can shatter or ensnare it into fragments that pass through the urine. The physician may also insert a stent or conduit into the ureter to promote healing and reduce inflammation. A patient may require either local or general anaesthesia for a surgical procedure.
