Immune System Problems
Your immune system defends you against invaders such as toxins, microorganisms and bacteria that cause infection. It may still be harmful and attack at least one part of your body such as your liver. Biliary Cholangitis, a common immune system disorder that can cause liver damage, is a common problem.
The bile tubes in your liver are attacked by primary biliary Cholangitis. These pipes carry bile, which is a substance that helps you to digest food. When the pipes are damaged, the bile can back up in your liver and leave scars. This is more common in women than men. Primary cholangitis can scar your bile tubes and block them in the end. It is because the bile forms inside your liver that it becomes difficult for your liver. You may need to undergo a liver transplant at some point. It is more likely to affect men than women.
