If you still want to enjoy lactose-containing treats, there are a few other simple remedies to consider.
You can condition your gut to produce more lactase by providing it with tiny signals in the form of small amounts of lactose. This is a form of conditioning your body to progressively increase its lactose production over time, similar to how it was conditioned to produce less lactose in the absence of a significant lactose diet.
More dynic fare: Combining lactose-containing foods with other macronutrients, such as proteins and carbohydrates, evidently slows gastric evacuation. Consequently, cramping and diarrhoea can be treated. Slow gastric emptying also allows lactose to be hydrolyzed before it enters the colon and causes irritation or inflammation.
