Bone fragility
Patients with lactose intolerance can develop brittle bones, low bone density, and joint discomfort. This is not a direct result of lactose malabsorption, but rather a consequence of avoiding lactose intolerance by avoiding milk. Especially for elderly and middle-aged women, avoiding dairy, which contains essential minerals and calcium for bone mass development, without supplementing these nutrients in other ways can be detrimental to bone health.
