Lactose intolerance Disorders
In patients with lactose intolerance caused by a disease, additional infection and disease symptoms may coexist.
Malnutrition and underdevelopment
Untreated lactose intolerance in infants can result in acute diarrhoea, which can cause malnutrition and stunted growth. Babies who are allergic to cow’s milk may develop a transient secondary lactose intolerance as a result of small intestine cell damage. In this case, additional allergy symptoms include rashes, watery eyes and nose, and potentially fatal anaphylaxis.
