Allergic reactions
Common symptom of lactose intolerance is skin allergy. In 40% of patients, classic allergic symptoms such as runny nose, eye irritation, skin rash, and irritated skin are observed due to an overactive immune response to the casein protein in milk. Allergy is generally recognised as a distinct condition from lactose intolerance. Generally, infants are allergic to cow’s milk. However, milk allergy and lactose intolerance may occur simultaneously in some individuals, making diagnosis and differentiation challenging.
