CBT Techniques For Depression.
CBT is used as a treatment for depression.
Depression can be a problem that occurs alone or in conjunction with addiction. All of these problems can be treated effectively with CBT.
The Great Depression.
At least five depressive symptom occur over a period of two weeks. Major depression can be so debilitating that it affects your ability to study, work or sleep.
You may experience a few of these episodes in your lifetime. They can also be a result traumatic events in life, like the end of a romantic relationship or a death in the family.
Persistent Depression Disorder (PDD)
PDD (previously Dysthymia) was a term used for a type of depression that lasted at least two full years. Even though it is a milder form of depression you can still experience similar symptoms.
PDD can be characterized by stress and irritability. It also makes it difficult to enjoy life.
Bipolar Disorder.
This depressive disorder manifests as a mood cycle oscillating between mild or severe highs, (hypomania or mania), and depressive lows.
Mechanism of behavior and cognitive components
The behavioral and cognitive components can be differentiated and each has a different mechanism ( 6).
Cognitive component.
Your therapist can help you identify deceptive thoughts that cause negative emotions. You’ll then both explore alternative, balanced processes and question these emotions.
Discover your negative thoughts, and how they have affected you. Negative thoughts prevent patients from feeling motivated and energized as a result their treatment. CBT helps to re-educate you thinking, so you become more realistic. This reduces depression.
You will also have the chance to find out where your negative thoughts come from. You will be encouraged to look into the support or opposition for these.
Behavioral component.
Your therapist will guide you to assess and examine how your daily activities and habits impact your mood as part of behavioral therapy. Your therapist might encourage you to think about how your behavior can improve your depression symptoms.
Your therapist will help you develop a plan based on your behavior. The activities are then listed in order of increasing difficulty. As you progress from the easy to the difficult activities, you will feel more accomplished and your depression may decrease.
CBT is not limited to a clinic. Exercise under stress and at home is essential for a successful treatment. To reduce the intensity of negative feelings, adopt a logical approach in your life.
