The presence of severe acne
This form of acne, also known as cystic-nodular acne, is the most severe. It is characterized by eruptions that penetrate deeper into the epidermis layers than mild or moderate lesions. It is marked by the following symptoms:
These cysts are larger and deeper than the comedones observed in moderate cases. The white or pallid color may be caused by pus inside.
Nodules are bumps that arise from the deeper layers of epidermis. These may be flesh-colored and are touchable.
Inflammation: as the severity increases, it becomes more pronounced.
The red base surrounding the cystic eruptions is highly conspicuous.
Acne-related agony
Acne scars or traces are an indicator of severe acne.
As the pimples diminish, they may leave behind dark spots due to an increase in melanin production. This condition is known as postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.
This type of acne is extremely difficult to treat and requires appropriate care. The medications used to treat mild or moderate acne either do not work or act slowly on this type of acne. Mishandling cysts can result in scarring. Injections of steroids are used to reduce the inflammation induced by acne cysts.
