What is Acne? Definition, Symptoms, Causes, Types, Risk Factors, Complications, Home Remedies, Treatment

Ascorbic acid

Salicylic acid is a compound that is used to alleviate acne. This acid acts as a mild chemical exfoliant. Salicylic acid contains the anti-inflammatory compound salicylate. Salicylic acid causes the epidermis to shed its top layer of cells, which prevents pores from becoming clogged. As indicated by its mechanism of action, it is used to treat acne that is non-inflammatory. Utilizing salicylic acid will reduce the frequency of new acne. Because salicylic acid is an organic compound that dissolves readily in oils, it is able to permeate deeply into the skin and unclog blocked pores. Additionally, it is used to treat acne scarring. As an adverse effect, salicylic acid can cause irritation and tingling.
