The sport of swimming
Numerous swimmers experience problems with acne and breakouts. Excessive contact with water irritates and dries the epidermis. Iodides and chlorines are used to sanitize swimming pools. Both of these chemicals can induce acne or exacerbate the condition if it already exists. Chlorine dilates the skin’s pores, resulting in an increase in natural sebum secretion. The body reacts to chlorine similarly to how it reacts to microorganisms, which causes inflammation.
