Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
In this treatment, dermatologists apply a topical agent to make lesions sensitive to light or infuse the agent directly into the tumor and allow it to remain there for a period of time to ensure complete absorption. Dermatologists then utilize a pulsed-dye laser that destroys BCC by inducing a reaction. The patient must avoid sunlight for at least two days after the procedure, as exposure to UV rays will hasten the medication’s activation and cause severe sunburns.
