Weak Immune System
It is conceivable that a robust immune system plays a significant role in regularly combating cancer or precancerous cells. The body has a mechanism for filtering out cancer cells to prevent the development of visible cancer. This is known as the eradication phase, during which immune cells control and eliminate the tumor.
Therefore, a weakened immune system increases the likelihood of developing skin cancer. SCC is more likely to develop in those with compromised immune systems than in those with robust immune systems. This includes individuals with a medical condition that reduces the function of the immune system, such as those with HIV, those receiving chemotherapy for cancer treatment, and those with an autoimmune disease.
For organ transplant, immunosuppressive injections and medications that increase the risk of SCC are administered. The transplant recipient is 100 times more likely to develop SCC than the general population.
