The skin is the body’s largest organ and is composed of numerous cells in continuous motion. There are three layers of skin, including the epidermis, which is the outermost layer. The second, denser layer is the dermis, while the final layer is the subcutaneous layer. The epidermis provides the body with protection and gives the skin its pigment.
Skin cancer is caused by the abnormal development of cells on the epidermis as a result of unrepaired DNA damage that causes a mutation in cells and leads to their continuous growth, which eventually results in the formation of malignant tumors and cancer.
