Excessive elation, pleasure, and optimism
Occasionally, patients with bipolar disorder experience what is commonly known as mania. Mania is characterized by an acute sense of optimism, happiness, and elation, and the patient feels on top of the world. The feelings of excessive enthusiasm and optimism may cause a person to lose touch with reality and begin imagining things that do not exist in reality. Some patients feel extremely elated and content, making it challenging for them to cope with the realities of life. Patients with bipolar disorder may experience periods of elevated vitality, stimulating ideas, and a heightened sense of importance. In addition, bipolar disorder patients experiencing mania begin to despise others who do not share the same enthusiasm or positive outlook, causing them to display rage.
