Bipolar disorder may be caused by chemical imbalances and structural alterations in the brains of a subset of the population. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals in the brain that are responsible for modulating a person’s mood. Dopamine, serotonin, and nor-adrenaline are the neurotransmitters that are most commonly out of equilibrium due to biological differences.
