White epidermis
One of the most prevalent symptoms of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is pale skin. Because red blood cells (RBCs) transport oxygen to all parts of the body, including the skin, anemia can produce pale skin. When your child has hemolytic uremic syndrome, a prominent symptom is pallor of the epidermis. Their complexion becomes pale and lackluster. This is due to the fact that the red blood cells produced by the bone marrow are compromised and can no longer function normally.
In previously healthy children and adolescents, this typically occurs between 24 and 36 hours after the onset of diarrhea. Severe generalized bone and joint pain frequently accompanies this skin discoloration, which is sometimes noticed for the first time when the patient peers in the mirror or when a relative comments on their pale complexion.
