Face swollenness
In patients and parents with hemolytic uremic syndrome, facial swelling is a common cause for concern. The face, tongue, gums, eyes, and esophagus are commonly swollen and irritated in patients with HUS. In extreme instances, the affected region may spread to the neck and upper body. Additionally, the condition causes small red patches on the whites of the eyes, pallor (whiteness) of the skin, and painful swelling in the groin, abdomen, wrists, or hands.
