Applanation Tonometry

A cataract can cause an increase in fluid pressure in the eye. Applanation tonometry can be used to measure the intraocular pressure, or pressure within the eye. The device is a flat cone-shaped end which makes contact with corneal tissue and measures resistance to a standard pressure.

Applanation Tonometry Disadvantages:

  • To measure pressure, you need great accuracy and precision.
