Managing the common illness
In 1970, Pauling recommended vitamin C for the treatment of the common cold. Several studies indicate that the prophylactic use of vitamin C shortens the duration of colds in infants and adults. Vitamin C may shorten the duration of the common cold due to its antihistamine influence, which is produced by vitamin C in high doses. Although results are inconsistent and more research is needed to support the claim that vitamin C can treat the common cold, there is some evidence to support the claim.
