Insufficient Vitamin C
Even in developed nations, vitamin C deficiency can occur as a result of general malnutrition or poor dietary habits, but severe vitamin C deficiency leading to scurvy is uncommon. Depression, rash, fatigue, internal bleeding, connective tissue disorders, gingivitis, impaired wound repair, and petechial are common vitamin C deficiency symptoms. In young children and infants, vitamin C deficiency can severely impair bone development. The diagnosis of vitamin C deficiency is predominantly clinical, and oral supplements are typically prescribed to treat the deficiency.
Vitamin C is essential for numerous bodily functions, so its deficiency can have detrimental effects on health. Severe vitamin C deficiency results in scurvy, which is characterised by abnormal osteoid or dentin formation as well as hemorrhagic manifestations.
