Reduces uric acid and prevents gout attacks
Gout is a form of arthritis that affects approximately 4% of individuals worldwide. Gout is excruciatingly painful and causes joint inflammation, particularly in those with large toes. In addition, another study reveals that consuming a vitamin C supplement for more than 30 days has the potential to reduce blood uric acid levels in comparison to the placebo.
Several studies, however, suggest that vitamin C may aid in lowering uric acid levels in the blood and protect against gout attacks. A study of approximately 1387 men reveals that those who consume the most vitamin C have substantially lower blood levels of uric acid than those who consume the least vitamin C. Taking a daily vitamin C supplement can reduce the risk of gout by 44%, according to a study that followed 46994 healthy male adults over the age of 20. However, additional studies are planned to investigate the influence of vitamin C on gout.
