Vitamin B12 Sources in Food
Plants do not produce vitamin B12, and the only sources of the vitamin are animal products such as eggs, meat, poultry, and dairy products. Strict vegetarians are more likely to develop vitamin B12 deficiency if they do not consume cereals and grains fortified with vitamin B12. People who undergo gastric bypass surgery to reduce weight are also more likely to be deficient in vitamin B12 because the surgical procedure interferes with vitamin B12 absorption from food sources.
