Extracellular Matrix (ECM)

The extracellular matrix (ECM), is a material that makes the cells of the body stick together. ECM functions in a similar way to mortar that holds bricks together for a wall. The concentration of ECM in fibroids is higher for some reason, which makes them more fibrous. They also grow more and more into clusters. ECM also tends to accumulate in fibroids growth factors which result in biological changes in the cells.
