Normal Gestational Diabetes Level
Screening tests may vary slightly depending on the healthcare provider, but typically include:
You will consume a glucose solution-based nectar. After one hour, you will undergo a blood test to determine your blood glucose level. Gestational diabetes is indicated by a blood glucose level of 190 milligrams per deciliter (mg/Dl) or 10.6 millimoles per liter (mmol/L). On a sugar challenge test, a blood glucose less than 140 mg/Dl (7.8 mmol/L) is generally considered normal; however, this may vary by lab or clinic. If your blood glucose level is rising relative to normal, you will need to undergo a second glucose tolerance test to determine if you have this condition.
This test is identical to the initial glucose tolerance test, except that the saccharine solution will contain more sugar and your blood sugar will be measured almost every hour for nearly three hours. You will have gestational diabetes diagnosed.
