Types, Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, and Recovery of Vitiligo

Tacrolimus or Pimecrolimus used topically

Inhibitors of calcineurin, such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus, are typically useful in the treatment of eczema. Although tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are not licensed for use on the skin to treat vitiligo, they have been shown to be effective. However, they can aid in the restoration of skin pigmentation in infants and adults with vitiligo. Nonetheless, tacrolimus and pimecrolimus may cause the following adverse effects:

Increasing skin’s sensitivity to sunlight
Redness and irritation of the face
A painful or burning sensation following the application of the lotions.
