Cancer of the Skin or Melanoma
Melanoma or skin cancer that is malignant, as well as its treatment, can also contribute to the development of vitiligo. However, research indicates that vitiligo does not cause skin cancer and may even provide some protection against it and other cancers, possibly due to defective genes. However, vitiligo is associated with cutaneous melanoma, and the majority of antigens recognized by the immune system are expressed similarly in both normal melanocytes and melanoma cells.
