De Quervain’s disease

This is a condition of the hands that results in painful swelling of the tendons that support the thumb’s movement away from the hand. The condition causes pain in the radial region of the waist, and thickening in the ligamentous structure covering the tendons at the first dorsal part of the waist. Both trigger finger and De Quervain’s disease are linked to the inflammation of the hand tendons. Therefore, a patient with de Quervain’s disease may also develop trigger fingers. De Quervain’s disease can cause trigger finger to occur in the area of thumb. This is due to the swelling of tendons within the first compartment of the waist.
