Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, one of the main nerves of the hand, is pressed or compressed as it passes through the wrist. Trigger digit is clinical disorder that involves locking of the fingers. They can occur in the same hand or they can be caused by the same disorder. A hand surgeon treats trigger finger and carpal tunnel release together as one of the more common conditions. A disorder can cause the manifestation of another, so both disorders are common. In a retrospective study, trigger finger occurrence was studied to determine how one disorder can lead to the emergence of another. The study results showed that trigger fingers can be caused by carpal tunnel surgery. Carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger can both occur, but only one will be prominent. Trigger finger is more likely to occur after CTS surgery. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be a factor in trigger finger.
