15 Causes Associated With Trigger Finger

Trigger finger can be caused by a variety of factors, including medical conditions and lifestyle choices. Trigger finger can be caused by 15 different factors.

Thickening of pulley

The finger pulleys consist of a series of rings which create a channel through which the tendons can glide. These pulleys hold the tendons against the bone. The fluid lining of the tendons and tunnel helps the tendon glide through the pulley. The pulley at the base can become too thick, causing trigger finger. The pulley becomes thicker and tightens up around the tendons, making it difficult for them to freely move through the pulley. The increased resistance to the smooth glide of the tendon can cause pain or a popping sensation on the thumb or finger.
