Expanded spleen
A swollen spleen can be both a cause and symptom for thrombocytopenia. The spleen plays a role in maintaining a healthy immune and cleaning blood. The spleen will start to store major platelets if it becomes enlarged. This results in a reduced platelet count. The spleen will become enlarged if it is not able to circulate enough platelets in the blood. A swollen spleen may be an indication of thrombocytopenia.
