Bruising
Bruises can be a common symptom of thrombocytopenia. A bruise can be caused by an injury that breaks capillaries beneath the skin. Blood leaks from the capillaries, creating a pool of blood that causes bruises. Normal bruises turn yellow as blood is reabsorbed by the body. In most cases, they are not a problem as the capillary heals and the blood is restored by the body. However, if the platelets are low, the body will do this. The blood clots very slowly and it is difficult to prevent additional blood leakage. Blood does not clot well, so it can cause the skin to bruise after even minor injuries.
