Compliment Mediated TMA
It is the newest cause of thrombocytopenia. This condition is caused by a gene mutation that is inherited, causing an abnormality in the immune system. Complement protein, which helps destroy foreign cells and remove damaged cells, acts as a scavenger. A gene mutation can cause the complement system to become overactive. This can lead to a reduction in the normal regulation of control and can harm the cells. In the case of TMA mediated by complement, this is what happens. This condition is particularly dangerous for the kidneys, which can be damaged and even fail.
