Pregnancy
In the blood of women who are pregnant, a low platelet count is visible. This condition is known as gestationalthrombocytopenia. It is not a disease. Even so, some women who have uncomplicated pregnancy show a consistent reduction in platelet count. This is due to the platelet count being adjusted during pregnancy. The platelet count decreases a bit during the third trimester or delivery. This is because the plasma level increases during pregnancy, which can lead to platelets being diluted by a large amount of plasma. The condition will go away by itself in a couple of weeks following delivery, and is therefore not dangerous. If the platelet count drops more than normal in a pregnant woman, it is best to consult a doctor immediately to avoid any complications.
