Autoimmune Disease
When the immune system attacks healthy cells, it is called autoimmune disease. This condition occurs when the immune system releases a protein to attack healthy cells. If immunity cells or proteins attack platelets in the body, this will result in thrombocytopenia. Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis are autoimmune diseases caused by destruction of platelets.
