Jerky Movements
Ian briefly considered diving into the water in order to see what was beneath the log. The warning about snakes that he had heard earlier resurfaced, and prompted him to quickly dismiss this adventurous impulse.
As he studied the scene, the logic of his father’s theory started to fade in his mind. The log’s unexpected movements, including its twists and turns seemed to be out of place in the river, which is usually predictable. The log didn’t move randomly or with an occasional shift. It moved as if it was being propelled by a force that was not visible. He did not believe that the gentle current of the river could be the only reason for this behavior. As he contemplated the mystery in front of him, skepticism and intrigue blended together.
A thought
Ian quickly approached the bush and grabbed the stick. He ripped it apart with force, then stripped it of its leaves. He reached out and grabbed a tree as he slowly walked towards the water.
As he scanned the area in search of a solution, his eyes fell on a long stick tucked away within a bush. In his mind, a spark of inspiration ignited and a plan started to form.
