The couple were overjoyed at their recent wedding and had high hopes for the future. It was an emotional rollercoaster for the couple, as they experienced extreme highs, and extreme lows. They were overjoyed to celebrate their recent wedding and Billie completing her pilot training. Billie was proud of herself after completing her United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) training in San Antonio. He found a letter congratulating his achievement when he got home.

Bilie and Peggy did not have any answers for their problems. Both had decided to serve the country and now, they were summoned by the government to report to service. Both agreed that their military commitment was more important than the marriage oath. The hard truth hit them and they realized that in order to fulfill the duties of others, they would need to give up their plans to have a family. They were determined to not give up or disappoint anyone, even though they had been married only a few months.
