Peggy was stationed in Texas and Billie was in San Antonio which was a little far away from the base. They had no choice but to write each other letters. They continued to correspond regularly after they first met. As a result, they became the closest of friends, and their feelings grew stronger as more letters came in. Billie increased her flirting after a while, and soon the two were courting.
Relationship Commitment
The couple acted as expected. Billie then proposed to Peggy – the woman he loved – and she accepted. On September 22, 1943, the couple exchanged vows. Their wedding took place in the Sunshine State. They had no idea of the hardships that lay ahead; they only hoped their love was strong enough to get them through. The challenges seem to have started immediately.
