Peggy hesitated to write Billie at first because it was Billie’s father who persuaded Peggy to do so. Billie, who was studying to become a pilot, received letters from a young girl. His father thought this was a great way to motivate Billie. Peggy was worried about the circumstances. Peggy informed Billie’s father that Peggy would never have such a conversation with a male unknown.

Peggy’s dad began to suspect that her daughter-in law was either shy or not interested in his son. Billie was the one who he decided to talk with about Peggy. Billie was writing to Peggy long before he knew it. Peggy admits that she had some reservations about Billie at first, because of her unfamiliarity. Billie visited Peggy on her vacation, and the two women instantly became friends.
