Returning to the Past
Billie has completed around 100 missions in his military service. Billie was given the chance and permission to return home. The month of July 1944 had been set aside specifically for that. Billie was ecstatic when he heard that he would be returning home to his wife. Destiny had different plans. Billie sent Peggy a letter informing her of his arrival, and expressing delight at the prospect to see her again. Billie heard some terrible news just before he was about to board his boat.
Devastated
Billie was about board a ship that had injured servicemen in need of medical care. Billie was forced to stand by because there was no space on the ship to accommodate another service member. He had to do this so that the other passengers could return to the United States ahead of him. He would wait for several weeks until another ship arrived. Billie’s journey home was finally about to start, but yet again he had to wait. Billie’s entire life was changed by this one incident.
