Peggy wanted to hold on to any information that she could. She hoped Billie would be receiving immediate care in a hospital. Billie’s parents were also convinced that Billie was just being processed. He may have suffered an injury which caused him to forget his memories, and this is why he hadn’t yet returned home. Peggy was certain that something was wrong but was unsure what. She felt strongly that she should keep looking and longed to look into Billie’s eyes. She could not have anticipated what would happen.
Red Cross Assistance
Peggy found out about Billie’s demise in 1945. Peggy’s parents and Peggy tried to locate Billie but were unsuccessful. They decided to contact the Red Cross, hoping that someone would have the information they needed. Peggy wanted to know what happened to Billie, because she did not want her daughter becoming another victim of war crimes.
