Stage Of Stomach Cancer
Cancer stage is the most accurate indicator of morbidity and mortality rates by a significant margin.
If the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage and is localized, the prognosis is favorable because its spread can be readily contained. Nearly 70% of individuals can live for the next 5 years following a diagnosis. The overall survival rate is also quite high.
If the cancer has invaded the majority of the stomach and adjacent lymph nodes but has not yet spread to other organs, the survival rate is lower than for those with metastatic cancer. Treatments that target the localized tumor can aid in the reduction of mortality. Regionally-staged cancer has a five-year survival rate of only 32%.
The metastatic stage of gastric cancer is referred to as the metastatic stage. In this stage, the cancer has spread to distant regions of the body, no longer confined to the stomach. Due to the associated abnormality in other physiological systems, the mortality rate rises. The survival rate for malignancy at this stage is only 6%.
