Gender
Stomach cancer is more prevalent in men than in women, with a male-to-female ratio of 2:1. This is due to the fact that the estrogen hormones produced by the female genital organs prevent gastric inflammation. Males do produce estrogen, but in much smaller quantities than females. Furthermore, males are more likely to use tobacco and other carcinogens than women. The decline in estrogen secretion during menopause makes women more susceptible to stomach cancer.
