Anemia
The bone marrow is in charge of producing white and red blood cells. Blood is responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to our cells. When a tumor is fully developed and has developed blood vessels for its nutrition, it becomes susceptible to hemorrhaging. The patient begins to lose blood cells at a quicker rate than they are being produced. This blood loss diminishes the oxygen supply to the cells. Iron deficiency is observed in fifty percent of patients with gastric cancer due to associated malabsorption of nutrients. In addition, when cancer treatments are initiated, they destroy even more red blood cells. Reduced hemoglobin levels also impact the absorption of energy and nutrients in the blood.
